#EndJewHatred issues statement in response to MIGOP chairwoman
International grassroots movement condemns recent comments dismissing Holocaust.
(June 29, 2023 / New York / End Jew Hatred) The international grassroots civil-rights movement #EndJewHatred issued the following statement condemning the Michigan Republican Party (MIGOP) Chairwoman Kristina Karamo’s comments dismissing as ‘hilarious’ the criticism of an official tweet from the MIGOP Twitter account that used imagery from the Holocaust in an offensive manner:
“The #EndJewHatred movement is appalled by MIGOP Chairwoman Kristina Karamo’s quick dismissal of Jew-hatred. Let’s be clear, there is nothing “hilarious” about appropriating the intergenerational trauma of the Holocaust from the Jewish people in order to score cheap political points. Karamo seems to have learned nothing after she was called out for this misappropriation. Instead, she seems to be barreling down the path towards outright Jew-hatred.
Appropriating the shared experience of a minority community is unacceptable, and Karamo’s failure to understand this makes her toxic. Jew-hatred comes from both sides of the political spectrum, and we must hold accountable anyone who engages in it, whether it’s Rashida Tlaib or Kristina Karamo.
We call on Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who herself is a Michigander, to take action to remove Karamo from her position and join with us in solidarity to make it clear that Jew-hatred has no place in politics.
The #EndJewHatred movement will continue to call out Jew-hatred in all its forms, and work with elected representatives from both sides of the aisle for meaningful action. Earlier this year, we worked with Michigan state lawmakers to pass a bipartisan resolution in the State Senate proclaiming April 29th as ‘EndJewHatred Day,’ endorsing a commitment to collaboration in the fight against Jew-hatred. We must not allow the actions of people like Kristina Karamo, who continue to peddle in bigotry and hate, to upend the tremendous progress we are making in the fight to end Jew-hatred in Michigan, and around the world.”
