#EndJewHatred to Host Rise Up Ottawa! Event

Grassroots Civil Rights Movement Rallies Jewish community in Ottawa to Unite Against Antisemitism

OTTAWA, Nov. 4, 2022 – In a historic first, the #EndJewHatred civil rights movement is uniting the Jewish community at a special event called “Rise Up Ottawa!” at the Infinity Convention Centre, 2901 Gibord Dr., Gloucester, ON, Canada, on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 1 p.m. ET.

Over the past year, Ottawa, and many cities in Canada, have experienced an unprecedented and terrifying rise in antisemitism. The fact that it’s happening in schools cannot be ignored. Jewish children as young as three years old are being harassed, gaslighted, segregated, threatened, and attacked as antisemitism is openly embraced in the education system.

“The continued rise of Jew-hatred across the world, and particularly in Ottawa schools, should be concerning to everyone,” said Brooke Goldstein, Executive Director of The Lawfare Project and a Co-founder of the #EndJewHatred movement. “I come from Canada and am shocked to see how Jew-hatred has become so normalized throughout the country. It is vital for the community to come together at this event to learn what they need to do to end Jew-hatred in schools and across Canada.”

End Jew Hatred partnered with The Lawfare Project, Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation (CAEF), and Ottawa Against Antisemitism (OAA) to create “Rise Up Ottawa!” This will be the largest gathering in history dedicated to hearing directly from students’, parents’, and educators’ first-hand experiences with the terrifying Jew-hatred they’re living in public schools. This crucial event brings together concerned members of the Jewish community with educators, elected officials, dignitaries, leading organizations, and activists. Attendees will be shocked to hear how antisemitism has quickly become a global pandemic, while learning what they can do to feel safer in schools.

“As an educator witnessing and experiencing this unacceptable increase of Jewish Hate in school is awful. What’s worse are the innocent Jewish children being targeted and therefore being made to hide their identity,” said Lisa Levitan, Ontario College of Teachers public educator and recipient of the 2022 Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. “With fewer Holocaust Survivors than ever before, ‘Never Again’ is more than just a principled cause. It’s a call to action against all hate. We are the next generation, and we have a responsibility to uphold. We do not hide. We do not run away. We do not combat hate with hate. But we belong, everywhere.”

The event will feature educational seminars and guest speakers including Brooke Goldstein; Lisa Levitan; the Israeli Embassy; Melissa Lantsman, Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada; Yasir Naqvi, Liberal Member of Parliament; Gerard Filitti, Senior Counsel at The Lawfare Project and End Jew Hatred; Shimon Fogel, CEO at the Centre of Israel and Jewish Affairs; Sam Goldstein, National Director of the David Matas Law Society and B’nai Brith; Mina Cohn, Chair of the Cetre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship; Anita Bromberg, President of the Canadian Antisemitism Education; Andrea Freedman, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, Penina Edery, Director of High Schools & CEGPcAffairs Stand With Us Canada, Daniel Koren, Executive Director Hasbara Fellowsips Canada, and Corey Margolese, Founder Jteach and NCSY Canada.
